What you’re looking at?
- Place: Villa San Michele, Capri
- Sculpture: An Egyptian sphinx, traditionally dated to around 3,200 years old and associated with the reign of Ramesses II.
- Setting: The Sphinx Terrace, one of Villa San Michele’s most spectacular viewpoints.
- Background: The cliffs and coastline of Capri, with the Mediterranean/Gulf of Naples beyond.
Interestingly, the sphinx is the symbol of Villa San Michele. There is also a famous tradition that if you place your left hand on the sphinx and make a wish while looking out to sea, the wish will come true.
